DAYS OF THE WEEK

If you've wondered why so many 2M Gems have been humming or singing the Addams Family tune lately, it's not because we have been watching re-runs of the T.V show... it's because we have been working on our March task for Voices of the World.

March's task was to create a slideshow of the 'DAYS of the WEEK'.

First we had to create slides for the days of the week in Kid Pix. We found 'writing' with a mouse very tricky, and it looked like we would run out of time, so thank goodness Ben D found a feature in Kid Pix that allows you to resize and move letters.

Jarvis was the 'expert' CREATOR and DESIGNER who made most of the slides in one session and we helped Mrs M

upload them into Powerpoint.

Next we had to choose an 'Addams Family' backing track.

All of the tracks we could choose from were fast, so we had

LOTS of practising before we recorded ourselves on the ipod.

Finally we uploaded the Powerpoint and the audio file into

myplick.We had trouble syncing the slides with the audio but after

many goes, Mrs M finally got it synced...and here's the result!

EASTER COUNTDOWN

Hey Mr V.... here's another type of clock - a 'countdown' clock!

It's not long until Easter now... but with tomorrow being the last
day of school before Easter we are wondering if the Easter

MATHS WITH MR V

Today we had Mr V, a visiting maths specialist, in our classroom for Numeracy Block. He helped us investigate 'TIME'. There were also 8 other teachers in our room to watch Mr V teaching us.

For one of the activities, we were asked to draw a parent, a baby, a child in primary school, a grandparent and a teenager. We had to write what ages we thought they were and put them in order from youngest to oldest.

Mr V spent a whole hour in our room and we had lots of fun. We will have a Voicethread ready tomorrow to show all that we did and our thinking about 'TIME'.

(This activity gave an interesting insight into the children's perception of 'age'. There was a lively discussion during the 'sharing time' at the end of the lesson about how old a 'baby' is. The other stage that showed up some interesting ages was that of 'grandparents'.... I'm a bit worried about looking 80!

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to fully listen and observe the children at work and the Voicethread tomorrow will let you in on some of the rich conversation that took place.)

WHAT'S THE TIME, MRS M?

Because we have blogging friends around the world,

we are always asking Mrs M what time it would be

in MooseJaw or Connecticut.

But now we don't need to ask anymore because we have 5 clocks in our classroom, thanks to Patrick's Mum who bought them for us.

The clocks show the time in:

* MooseJaw Canada (Mrs Cassidy's class) - they are 16 hours behind us

* New Hampshire (Mrs Knee and the Kinderkids) and Connecticut (Mr Greenberg's class) USA - they are 14 hours behind us

* Dundee Scotland (Mrs Tonner - Voices of the World) - 10 hours behind us

* Kaperelli Greece (Kaperelli Kindergarten kids) - 8 hours behind us.

We have discovered that none of the children in these cities are at school when we are. It's often not even the same day- it's the day before!

When we took these pictures today (MONDAY), it was 25 minutes to 11 in the morning where we are. In MooseJaw it was 25 minutes to 7 SUNDAY night and in New Hampshire and Connecticut it was 25 minutes to 9 SUNDAY night.

In Dundee and Kaperelli it was MONDAY but really early in the morning - 25 minutes to 1 in Scotland and 25 minutes to 3 in Greece.
