Number Family

A number family is a number triangle that has three numbers on it and you have to use those three numbers into sums. You have to draw a triangle then at the edges you put three numbers then you work out the sums in the number triangle. When you do the subtraction sums the biggest number always go's first and in addition the biggest number always go's last.

TALKING IN COMIC CHAT

Today, some of our class were lucky to be chosen to chat with some year three's from Parklands State School on Comic Chat.

Children in Queensland State schools are not allowed to skype like we do or have a blog that is public for all to see.

We were lucky to be invited into a chat room in the Education Queensland Learning Place to talk to the Year 3's about our learning and their learning.
It was a long conversation but lots of fun. We want to chat again in Comic Chat because it is so good.

First you get to chose your avatar. In stead of talking on line like Skype, you type in what you want to say and then it comes up in a speech bubble with your avatar.
We think it's a shame that we can't skype this class but we'd love to chat in Comic Chat again because it helps you improve your typing skills and it's fun!

Have you ever used Comic Chat?
How have you used it in your class?

OUR KANDINSKY PICS

We have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes.
Mrs M told us about a Russian artist called Kandinsky. His art is called Abstract art.
He uses lots of 3D and 2D shapes.
We made our own Kandinsky-like pictures to demonstrate our learning of 2D and 3D shapes. Our drawings also include straight lines, curved lines, open shapes and closed shapes just like Kandinsky.
Have a look at our Animoto with our Abstract drawings.

OUR NEW FURNITURE

We certainly got a big surprise when we entered our classroom this morning.
We have some new furniture!!
We were excited for 2R last term when their new furniture arrived and never expected that we would get new furniture too. It was even a surprise for Mrs M!

We LOVE our new tables because we can arrange them in so many different ways.
It's going to be even more fun now in our Learning Neighbourhood.

OUR READING BLOG

We have another new blog! It's our reading blog called 2M Reading Gems! We LOVE it.

Our Reading blog is where we share books that we are reading.
Sometimes we will share our reading responses to books we have read and recommend books we think you should read.
It's also a space where we reflect on our oral reading skills and you can listen to audio of us reading.
On our Reading Blog you can also explore the websites of our favourite authors and browse our Shelfari to see the books we are reading as a class.

So please visit our reading blog.
We'd love to have your feedback about our reading and if you have any books that you love...please share them with us.
We'd love to read them too!

OUR WRITING BLOG

This is a guest post written by Lara on behalf of the GEMS.

We created a writing blog for us to share our writing with others and teach us how to post. Our blog is called 2m Writing Gems.

This blog helps us open up our writing to others around the world. It also helps us to improve our writing and get quicker with our typing.

As we are writing and before we publish, we focus on the CUPS.
The CUPS are-

C - is for capitals. Do I have a capital to start my sentences and for the names of people, places and things

U- is for understanding. Does my writing make sense?

P-is for punctuation. Have I used my full stops,
commas, exclamation marks,
question marks or speech marks?

S-is for spelling. Are all my words spelt correctly on my post?

At the moment, we are writing recounts but later on in the year, we will be attempting other text types like stories, descriptions, opinions and explanations.

We'd LOVE for you to encourage us with our writing so please visit our Writing Blog often and leave comments that will help us become better writers.

WHAT'S THIS NEW ADDITION TO OUR ROOM?

Gems,

Meet the new addition to our classroom.
I adopted him at the workshop I'm attending today.

What do you think it is?
What does it remind you of?
What do you think we can do with it?
How will it help our learning?

I'd love for you to leave your responses as a comment....and then you'll just have to be patient.
You'll meet out new friend on Monday.

Have a great weekend.

WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT EARTHQUAKES

We have been talking a lot about people in Haiti and Chile. We can't begin to understand how hard life must be for them.

Our discussions lead to us talking about earthquakes.
For us to better understand what life is like for people who are affected by earthquakes, we need to know about earthquakes.

Below is a wallwisher to help us rcord the question we have that will guide our inquiry.

HAVE YOU WIMPED YOURSELF?

We love reading the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' books...

and we love the website Wimp Yourself.

Wimp Yourself is a cool avatar generator site where you can create cartoon characters just like those in the 'Wimpy Kids' books. You can save the avatar you create in small, medium or large sizes.

Maybe you could create a whole lot of different characters and use them to write your own stories, maybe even your own 'Wimpy Kid' diaries.

Whatever you choose to do, we're sure there'll be lots of laughs and fun.
