We are getting ready to write a narrative.
To write a narrative we have to use lots of
descriptive words, so noun groups (nouns and adjectives) are very important.

Nouns are 'naming words' - they name people, places and things.
Adjectives are 'picture words' - they describe or add meaning to the noun
We learnt that there are different types of nouns.
We already knew about 'common' nouns -eg 'firefighter', 'beach' and 'car' and 'proper' nouns - eg 'Ben', 'Kings Beach' and 'Fiat'. Common nouns DON'T need a capital letter but Proper nouns DO.
Through exploring the Children's University of Manchester site, we learnt that there are 'collective' nouns - the words you use to name a group. You can have a 'crowd' of people and a 'flock' of sheep but we never knew that a group of crows is called a 'murder'!
We also discovered that words like 'happiness' and 'respect' are 'abstract' nouns. They are words for feelings or qualities- you CAN'T see, touch or hear them. Words like 'firefighter', 'beach' and 'car' that name things you CAN hear, see or touch are 'concrete' nouns.
We were having so much fun learning about the types of nouns, we didn't have time for adjectives....so can you guess what's on the agenda tomorrow?
